Clever Kitchen Ideas – Cantilevered Connection

At the request of the homeowners, I designed this contemporary Idaho cabin to embrace the stunning views of its locale. One of many prominent details designed to create a connection to the landscape is the window above the kitchen sink. The 5-ft.-wide by 5-1/2-ft.-tall window, which is actually a modified storefront door from Kawneer, sits atop a poured-in-place concrete countertop that cantilevers over the adjacent deck space. The resulting bar space has room for three people and helps to blur the delineation between indoor and outdoor spaces by connecting the activity in the kitchen and on the deck.

Raising the concrete bar. The cantilevered concrete countertop, which is deep under a prominent roof eave for protection, is reinforced with metal mesh and floats above ipé decking. The wall cladding is Douglas fir that has been screwed over a rain screen.

Below, we placed a much-needed junk drawer and a cabinet that has a pullout drawer where cell phones and cameras can be charged out of sight. Continue reading

Although a colorful tiled backsplash would have added visual interest, a clean, white mosaic version was a more fitting choice for this kitchen. The simple design stays in step with the room’s airy vibe. Accessories and extras, such as a copper light fixture and potted plants, introduce color.

Small & Sunny Kitchen
Clean lines, plenty of white, and an abundance of light spell success for this small kitchen. The room feels unconfined by its 11×11-foot footprint. Although small in square footage, several smart design strategies open up the area for a statement-making space. Understated and sophisticated finishes, such as the white backsplash and glass-front cabinets, keep the room simple and inviting.

The kitchen can be the least favorite part of the house for home cleaning. Most individuals hate cleaning the kitchen because they think that it is too messy and it requires so much scrubbing, dusting and washing. The kitchen is one of the most visited places in the house because basically we use it for our daily meals at least three times a day. And this is the reason why this area can be messier than the study room or even your bedroom. But cleaning the kitchen should not discourage you; it is actually one of the most interesting areas in your home where you can clean up.
