Remove your cabinet doors from their hinges using a screwdriver, empty your drawers and pull them out of your cabinets. Use a diluted solution of TSP (trisodium phosphate) to wash down all the surfaces to be painted, removing grease, dirt and preparing the surface for painting.

Lightly sand all the surfaces you are going to paint to provide a good base for the paint to adhere to. If your cabinets have not been finished before, or there are bare patches of wood with no finish on then, paint primer onto those areas. Let the primer dry, then lightly sand primed areas.

Apply your first coat of paint. With a good bristle brush or small roller, paint should go on evenly and smoothly. If there are difficult corners or edges to paint, apply painter's tape to walls or surfaces you don't want to get paint on. Let the first coat dry. Sand painted surfaces lightly with 220-grit sand paper.

Apply the second and final coat of paint. This one should be easier and faster to paint than the first coat. Let this coat dry for at least 24 hours or according to the paint manufacturer's instructions. Reassemble your cupboards and drawers.
